Pre-Requisite Knowledge
This documentation is designed to be beginner-friendly, but we assume you already have some experience with sports betting and knows some of the jargons used in betting communities. Here is a quick glossary for some of these jargons
-
Action: A bet or wager.
-
Bankroll: The total amount of money set aside by a bettor for the purpose of betting.
-
Bookmaker/Bookie: An individual or organization that accepts bets.
-
Line: The current odds or point spread on a particular event.
-
Unit: A standard betting amount set by the bettor. For some, a unit might be $10, for others, it might be $100 or more. It's a way to gauge how confident the bettor is about a particular bet. For example, a bettor might say they're placing "2 units" on a team, which means they're betting twice their standard bet amount on that team.
-
Unit Betting: A betting strategy where bets are based on unit amounts rather than specific dollar amounts. This strategy can be useful for managing and protecting one's bankroll. For instance, if a bettor always wagers in units of $10 and has a bankroll of $1,000, they can never lose their entire bankroll in just a few bets.
-
Tipster: One who studies sports and analyzes games to make betting recommendations.
-
Wager: Another term for a bet.
